Destination Spotlight - Terindah Estate

Our tours take our guests to some of the best places imaginable to visit and one such place is the unforgettable Terindah estate on the Bellarine Peninsula. With delicious wines and incredible views this is a great place to enjoy a delicious wine tasting. We decided to get in touch to find out more about this fantastic location.

EA: Tell us a bit about yourself, what’s your story?

Lydia: Hi my name is Lydia, I came to Australia about 8 years ago, originally from Germany. My background in hospitality management helped me over the years to develop a great passion for food and wine. So, when the opportunity came along for me to join the team at Terindah Estate on the Bellarine Peninsula, it felt like a dream came true.

EA: What's your position at Terindah?

Lydia: As the Food and Beverage Manager, I am here to ensure we provide the best possible experience for our guests, whether this is having a guided wine tasting or indulging in an unforgettable lunch with friends or family.

EA: Can you tell us a bit about Terindah and it's history?

Lydia: Terindah is owned by Cate and Peter Slattery, who purchased the property in 2000 with the vision to grow grapes and over time developed it into an award winning winery and dining destination. Our Restaurant; ‘The Shed @ Terindah’, a fully functioning on-site winery, cellar door and event space which hosts private functions, weddings and corporate events with strong focus on great food, great wine and fantastic customer service.

EA: What wines do you have available in your range?

Lydia: The Bellarine region is well known for its cool climate Pinot Noir’s and Chardonnay’s. We also grow other varieties including Pinot Gris, Pinot Grigio, Shiraz and Zinfandel. Zinfandel is considered an alternative grape variety in Australia. Around 70 vineyards in Australia are producing wine from Zinfandel grapes. The origin of the grape is Croatian, although it is internationally recognised as a ‘Californian’ variety.

EA: Do you have a favourite?

Lydia: Personally, my preferences change with the season. In spring I feel more like fresh and acidic wines, whereas in winter I prefer medium bodied reds, spice and tannin. My favourite at the moment is our 2016 Methode Traditionelle Sparkling, perfect for all of lifes’ little celebrations.

EA: What sort of things can people expect to find on the menu?

Lydia: Terindah can cater for a lot of different tastes (and requirements). From casual dining, at The Deck, where the menu is more focussed on share plates and light lunches, like cheese, charcuterie or our famous local Portarlington mussels. Or a more formal dining experience at The Shed, which allows for more customised dining experiences with fine dining aspects.

Visitors and guests will be able to choose the direction of their day. Enjoy The Deck Lounge with its stunning views with something a bit more light and casual that a group of friends can share or indulge in a fine dining a’ la carte dining experience in The Shed.

EA: Is there something on the menu that you particularly enjoy?

Lydia: Everything is delicious on our menu, but the grilled Octopus, with potato foam, crisp and paprika.

EA: What makes Terindah so unique?

Lydia: Terindah translates to “most beautiful” in Indonesian. Not only are our wines an outstanding product, but it’s about everything we are able to do here. Our package is the whole experience for our guests. We offer wine tastings, fine dining or a casual hangouts on a Sunday afternoon with live music, combined with great capacities to run functions: e.g weddings, hens parties, birthdays.

EA: Do you have any advice for visitors?

Lydia: Please make sure to plan ahead a little and book a table or a wine tasting for your group so we can arrange for your visit and give you the attention and time you deserve.

EA: Thanks Lydia!

Lydia: Thank you!
